The Prophet ﷺ taught dedicated supplications for departing on a journey and returning safely: for the road, the mount, the destination, and the return. Say them before stepping out, on the bus, in the car, on the plane.
Rabbi anzilni munzalan mubarakan wa anta khayru-l-munzilin.
“My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate us.”
A Quranic prayer for a blessed place of arrival. It is especially meaningful when moving home, reaching a new city, beginning life somewhere unfamiliar, or asking for a safe and good arrival.
Bismillahi, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah
“In Allah's name, I rely upon Allah, there is no power nor might except by Allah.”
It is said to him: you are guided, sufficed and protected, and the devils turn away from him.
Allahu Akbar (×3). Subhana-lladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha al-birra wat-taqwa, wa min al-'amali ma tarda.
“Allah is the greatest (×3). Glory to the One who has subjected this to us, we could not have done it ourselves; and to our Lord we shall return. O Allah, we ask You in this journey of ours for righteousness, piety, and deeds You are pleased with.”
Recited when boarding a vehicle, ship, or animal mount.
Ayibuna ta'ibuna 'abiduna li-rabbina hamidun
“We return, we repent, we worship and we praise our Lord.”
Subhana-lladhi sakh-khara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina la-munqalibun. Allahumma inna nas'aluka fi safarina hadha-l-birra wa-t-taqwa, wa mina-l-'amali ma tarda.
“Glory to Him who has subjected this to us, we could never have accomplished it on our own, and surely to our Lord we are returning. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and mindfulness on this journey, and for the kinds of actions that please You.”
Labbayka Allahumma labbayk. Labbayka la sharika laka labbayk. Inna-l-hamda wa-n-ni'mata laka wa-l-mulk. La sharika lak.
“Here I am at Your service, O Allah, here I am. Here I am at Your service; You have no partner, here I am. All praise and every blessing are Yours, and all sovereignty. You have no partner.”
The Talbiyah is the pilgrim's repeated response to Allah's call. It declares readiness, praise, gratitude, sovereignty, and that Allah (SWT) has no partner.
