About the Hijri calendar

The Islamic calendar is lunar, with twelve months each based on the observed or calculated new moon. A Hijri year runs about 354 days, so Islamic dates shift roughly eleven days earlier on the Gregorian calendar each year. Ramadan, for example, gradually moves through every Gregorian month over a 33-year cycle.

The calendar starts from the Hijrah, the Prophet's ﷺ migration from Makkah to Madinah in 622 of the common era. The first day of the Hijri year one, 1 Muharram 1, corresponds to roughly July 16 of 622.

Barakah uses the Umm al-Qura calendar, which is the official reference of Saudi Arabia and the most widely used Islamic calendar online. Local moonsighting in your country may differ by one day in either direction.
