The Majestic, whose greatness commands awe before it invites description.
Al-Jaleel is the One qualified by every attribute of majesty: might, dominion, holiness, knowledge, wealth beyond need. Where Al-Kabeer speaks of greatness and Al-Adheem of magnitude, Al-Jaleel speaks of the dignity and sublimity of His perfection, the majesty that made mountains crumble at His disclosure.

From the Quran & Hadith
From the root jim-lam-lam (ج ل ل), which carries the classical Arabic connotations of being great in dignity, majestic, and sublime; being far above and exalted beyond; and being glorious and lofty in station. From it comes jalāl, majesty: the attribute the believer greets in awe, as jamāl, beauty, is the attribute he greets in love. Al-Jaleel is the Owner of majesty in its fullness.
The Face that remains
The Quran anchors this Name's meaning in the verse of all endings: 'All that is upon the earth will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor' (Quran 55:26-27). Every majesty in creation is on loan and on a timer; His alone remains. The pairing dhu-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām joins majesty with generosity, awe with nearness, so the believer never mistakes His grandeur for coldness nor His kindness for smallness.
When majesty was shown to a mountain
When Musa (peace be upon him) asked to see his Lord, the answer taught all of us the scale of jalāl: 'When his Lord appeared to the mountain, He rendered it level, and Moses fell unconscious' (Quran 7:143). A mountain, the very symbol of what cannot be moved, could not stand one disclosure of His majesty. The hearts that hope to know Him are told, in that scene, to approach with awe.
Kullu man ʿalayhā fān. Wa yabqā wajhu rabbika dhu-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām.
“All that is upon the earth will perish, and there will remain the Face of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.”
Tabāraka-smu rabbika dhi-l-jalāli wa-l-ikrām.
“Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.”
The Prophet ﷺ taught the ummah to be persistent with the invocation built on this Name: 'Yā Dha-l-Jalāli wa-l-Ikrām', O Owner of Majesty and Honor.
Awe has grown rare. We are trained to be casual with everything, and hearts pay for it with shallowness. Al-Jaleel restores the depth: stand in prayer remembering that mountains level before the One you address, and the prayer changes texture; casualness leaves, presence arrives. But notice that His majesty never arrives alone in the Quran: it walks with ikrām, honor and generosity toward His servants. The believer's relationship with Al-Jaleel is therefore not fear that distances, but awe that draws near, the awe of standing before infinite greatness that has personally been kind to you all your life.
