An-Noor illuminates at every register: suns for eyes, revelation for hearts, wisdom for minds. Darkness has no source and no supply chain; it is only absence, waiting. Light is the positive reality, and its reality is His.

From the Quran & Hadith
From the root nun-waw-ra (ن و ر), which carries the classical Arabic connotations of light and illumination: that which is visible in itself and makes everything else visible. An-Noor is the Light of the heavens and the earth: existence is His illumination of nothingness, guidance is His illumination of hearts, and whatever anyone has ever truly seen was seen by a borrowed ray.
The verse of Light
'Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth' opens the most contemplated verse in the Quran (24:35), with its parable of the niche, the lamp, the glass like a brilliant star, and its ending: 'Light upon light. Allah guides to His Light whom He wills.' The commentators from Ibn Abbas onward read the parable as the light of guidance set alight in the believer's heart: revelation's oil, fitrah's glass, and iman burning where they meet. The physical suns are the metaphor; the guidance is the reality.
Ask for it limb by limb
The Prophet ﷺ walked to Fajr saying: 'O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light behind me, light in front of me, light above me, light below me. O Allah, grant me light' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6316, Sahih Muslim 763). Whoever wonders what to want from An-Noor has the Prophet's ﷺ own shopping list: illumination of every faculty and every direction, until the servant is lit through.
Allāhu nūru-s-samāwāti wa-l-arḍ. Mathalu nūrihi ka-mishkātin fīhā miṣbāḥ. Al-miṣbāḥu fī zujājah. Az-zujājatu ka-annahā kawkabun durriyy.
“Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp; the lamp is within glass; the glass as if it were a brilliant star.”
Wa ashraqati-l-arḍu bi-nūri rabbihā.
“And the earth will shine with the light of its Lord.”
Yawma tara-l-mu'minīna wa-l-mu'mināti yasʿā nūruhum bayna aydīhim wa bi-aymānihim.
“On the Day you see the believing men and believing women, their light proceeding before them and on their right.”
From the Prophet's ﷺ dua on the way to Fajr: 'O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light behind me and light in front of me, light above me and light below me. O Allah, grant me light.'
Confusion is a lighting problem. The same life, decisions, and people look impossible in the dark heart and navigable in the lit one; nothing outside changed. This is why the Prophet ﷺ asked for light rather than easier terrain: with enough nūr, any terrain reads. Make his Fajr dua yours, word for word, and expect the difference to show as clarity, not spectacle. And mind the Day when light becomes visible currency: believers' light running before them (57:12), proportional, say the scholars, to the light gathered here, wudu's glow, prayer's beams, Quran recited in the dark of night. Every act of worship is photon deposits for the crossing. Store aggressively.
