From the Quran & Hadith
From the root mim-jim-dal (م ج د), the same root as Al-Majeed. Al-Maajid is the active form: where Al-Majeed names the fullness of His glory, Al-Maajid names its perpetual exercise, glory expressing itself in noble dealing, generous giving, and beautiful conduct toward creation, moment by moment.
Glory measured by conduct
The scholars explain majd as the meeting of greatness and generosity: a being can be great without giving, or giving without greatness; majd is both at once. Al-Maajid's dealings prove the definition daily: He conceals faults He could expose, extends provision to those denying Him, and multiplies small deeds into everlasting reward. His conduct toward us has always been better than our conduct toward Him; that surplus is His majd.
Two forms, one perfection
Islamic tradition lists both Al-Majeed and Al-Maajid among the Names, and the classical books treat the difference as emphasis: Al-Majeed leans toward His glorious essence, praised in the salawat of every prayer; Al-Maajid leans toward His glorious acts, met in every generous decree. The servant honors the first with praise and the second with imitation: conducting himself, at creaturely scale, with the nobility he has been shown.

There is a nobility test hidden in this Name: how do you act when you hold the advantage? Al-Maajid holds every advantage forever, and His conduct is generosity, concealment of faults, and patience. Creatures usually reveal their smallness precisely when power makes pettiness safe; His glory shows most exactly there. So take the Name as a manners curriculum. Deal nobly when you could deal harshly and no one would object: with the employee who erred, the child who broke something, the debtor who is late. Every such moment is an offer to act, for one scene, like a student of Al-Maajid, and those scenes, accumulated, are what the tradition calls good character, the heaviest thing on the scale.
