Open the calculator
The same five-minute interactive zakat calculator, with AED as the default currency. Enter your wealth, see the zakat amount.
Zakat is 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for one lunar year. The UAE has a federal Zakat Fund that collects zakat from UAE Muslims and distributes it to recipients within the country.
The UAE nisab
Around AED 2,000-2,400 depending on silver spot. Use the silver-based nisab.
End-of-Service Benefits (gratuity)
Your end-of-service gratuity that has accrued but is held by your employer is zakatable when you can claim it (i.e. at the end of your contract or upon resignation). While you're actively employed and the money is held against your future departure, it's a contested question — the majority view is that it becomes zakatable each year because you have a real legal claim to it.
Real estate
Your primary residence and any property you personally occupy is not zakatable. Property held for rental income or capital gain: zakat on rental income (after expenses) once it sits in your account for a lunar year. Property held for resale at a profit (flipping): zakat on the full market value each year.
UAE-specific exclusions
Your car, household furniture and electronics, and personal jewellery you wear (the four schools differ on women's gold worn personally, with the majority Saudi/Hanbali position permitting it as a personal effect rather than zakatable wealth).
