Zakat calculator for Australia
Zakat in Australian dollars, with notes on superannuation, ASX shares, and DGR-registered Muslim charities.
Open the calculator
The same five-minute interactive zakat calculator, with AUD as the default currency. Enter your wealth, see the zakat amount.
Zakat is 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for one lunar year (hawl). Most Australian Muslim charities are DGR-registered, so zakat paid through them is tax-deductible.
The Australian nisab
Around AUD 700-900 depending on silver spot. Use the silver-based nisab.
Superannuation
Most contemporary scholars in Australia hold that superannuation is zakatable from the moment you can access it (typically age 60 or after retirement). Before that age, the money is locked away and not yet in your possession for zakat purposes.
ASX shares and ETFs
Long-term holdings: zakat on a portion of the share value reflecting the liquid assets and inventory of the underlying company. Active trading: zakat on the full market value. The calculator handles both.
Property investments
Your primary residence and the car you drive are not zakatable. Investment property is itself not zakatable, but the rental income (after expenses) becomes zakatable once it sits in your account for a lunar year.
Where to give in Australia
These are well-known Australia charities that collect and distribute zakat. We name them so you can verify them; we don't endorse one over another — check each one's audited accounts and current projects before giving.
