Ash-Shaheed is the One who was there, for everything. No deed lacked its Witness, no oppression happened off the record, no secret kindness went unseen. And He is the Witness who also testifies: to His own oneness, for His messengers, and over every soul on the Day accounts are read.

From the Quran & Hadith
From the root shin-ha-dal (ش ه د), which carries the classical Arabic connotations of witnessing and being present; testifying and bearing witness; and knowing a thing directly, first-hand, and declaring it. A shāhid saw it happen; a shahīd is one whose witnessing never lapses. Nothing has ever occurred without Ash-Shaheed present to it.
The greatest testimony ever given
Before any creature testified to anything, Allah testified to the greatest truth: 'Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and so do the angels and those of knowledge, that He is maintaining creation in justice' (Quran 3:18). The scholars marvel at this verse: the Witness, the testimony, and the maintained justice all in one line, and the people of knowledge granted the honor of co-signing beneath His signature.
Sufficient as Witness
Again and again the Quran closes disputes with one phrase: 'Sufficient is Allah as Witness' (Quran 4:79). When the Prophet ﷺ was denied, this sufficed him; when believers are slandered with no way to prove themselves, it suffices them. 'Is it not sufficient concerning your Lord that He is, over all things, a Witness?' (Quran 41:53). The question is rhetorical, and learning to feel it as an answer is one of the quiet strengths of iman.
Shahida-llāhu annahu lā ilāha illā huwa wa-l-malā'ikatu wa ulu-l-ʿilmi qā'iman bi-l-qisṭ.

Two aches this Name heals. The first is the ache of the unseen good: the years of care no one thanked, the honesty that cost you and won no applause. Ash-Shaheed was present for all of it; your record is complete in the only court that matters. The second is the ache of the unproven wrong: the injustice you could never demonstrate, the truth nobody believed. He witnessed that too, and His testimony does not go missing. Live, then, for the Witness rather than the audience. The version of you that exists when no one is watching is the only version, because Someone always is. And say the testimony back to Him daily, the shahada that answers His own: He witnessed that there is no god but Him; the believer's life is spent witnessing the same.
Allāhumma-jʿal sarīratī khayran min ʿalāniyatī wa anta-sh-Shahīdu ʿalayy
O Allah, make my hidden self better than my public self, for You are the Witness over me.
