The Rich beyond Need
The Rich, whose sufficiency owes nothing to anyone.
Al-Ghaniyy gains nothing from all obedience and loses nothing to all rebellion. He commands worship for our enrichment, not His revenue; He asks for loans of charity while owning both the giver and the gift. Religion, under this Name, is revealed as pure gift: a wealthy Lord arranging the enrichment of paupers.

From the Quran & Hadith
From the root ghayn-nun-ya (غ ن ي), which carries the classical Arabic connotations of being free of need and self-sufficient; rich in oneself rather than through holdings; independent of everyone and everything. Al-Ghaniyy is wealth as essence: He needs no provision, no helper, no worshipper, no thing, while every creature's every breath is a transaction of need.
The verse of the two balance sheets
'O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy' (Quran 35:15). One verse, two audits: ours reads need on every line, breath, warmth, meaning, forgiveness, continuation; His reads sufficiency without a single dependency. The scholars note the pairing with Al-Hameed here and throughout: His wealth is praiseworthy wealth, generous rather than hoarding, unlike every rich thing we have known.
Needless, yet He asks us for loans
The owner of the treasuries of the heavens and the earth asks: 'Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it?' (Quran 2:245). Al-Ghaniyy borrows nothing out of need; the request is a device of generosity, dignifying our giving as if He were the beneficiary, then repaying at seven hundred fold. Even His asking is a form of giving. 'And whoever is grateful, his gratitude is for himself; my Lord is Free of need and Generous' (Quran 27:40).
Yā ayyuha-n-nāsu antumu-l-fuqarā'u ila-llāh, wa-llāhu huwa-l-Ghaniyyu-l-Ḥamīd.

Every human relationship carries the fine print of mutual need, and need distorts: we perform, appease, and disappoint. The one relationship without that fine print is with Al-Ghaniyy: He needs nothing from you, so everything He asks of you is for you. Prayer feeds no hunger of His; it feeds yours. This re-reading turns the whole religion from tax into treatment. And true richness, the Prophet ﷺ said, is the richness of the soul (Sahih al-Bukhari 6446), the creature's share of this Name. It is grown by attaching your needs upward: the more your poverty faces Al-Ghaniyy alone, the less anything else can buy you. The freest people in every age were the ones whose only unpayable debt was to Him.
