What Does Ard (أَرْض) Mean in the Quran?
A simple noun root, the earth, land, ground.

Inside the Quran
Al-ard, the earth, is half of one of the Quran's most repeated pairings, as-samawati wal-ard, the heavens and the earth. Whenever the Quran wants to point at everything, it points at both.
It also means simply land, the land of a people, the ground you walk on. In 29:56 Allah reminds the believers, My earth is spacious, an ayah dear to everyone who has ever moved somewhere new for the sake of their religion.
“[It is He] who has made for you the earth as a bed [spread out] and inserted therein for you roadways and sent down from the sky, rain and produced thereby categories of various plants.”
“And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.”
“O My servants who have believed, indeed My earth is spacious, so worship only Me.”
