What Does Kayfal-Ahl Mean? Meaning and How to Reply
When to say it
After asking how someone is, asking about their ahl, their family and household, shows real care. It is one of the most common courtesies in Muslim conversation, especially with people you have not seen for a while.
Adab note. Among practising Muslims, men usually ask other men about the family or the household in general rather than asking specifically about a wife by name, and the same courtesy applies in reverse. Kayfal-ahl keeps the question warm and appropriately general.
You can extend it naturally, kayfal-ahl wal-awlad, how are the family and children? Or ask about a specific person you both know, kayfa waliduk, how is your father?

They are well, and praise be to Allah.
Answer with gratitude, then return the interest, wa ahluk, and your family? If someone in the family is unwell, it is natural to say so and ask for du'a.
