What Does Fi Amanillah Mean? Meaning and How to Reply
When to say it
Say it when parting, at the masjid door after prayer, ending a phone call, or seeing someone off on a journey. You are entrusting the person to Allah's aman, His protection and safe keeping, until you meet again.
It is especially loved for travel. When someone sets out on a trip, fi amanillah carries the meaning of the traveller's farewells found in the sunnah, where the Prophet ﷺ would entrust the traveller's religion, trusts, and final deeds to Allah (Sunan Abi Dawud 2600, graded sahih).
The parting salam is also sunnah. The Prophet ﷺ taught that the first greeting is not more deserving than the last, so give salam when you leave just as you did when you arrived (Jami at-Tirmidhi 2706).

Go with safety and peace.
You can also answer with the same phrase, fi amanillah, or simply return the salam. Between all of these, the meaning exchanged is one, may Allah keep you safe.
