A move is more than a new address. Ask Allah (SWT) for a blessed place of arrival, protection when entering, and a home shaped by gratitude and remembrance from its first day.
Rabbi anzilni munzalan mubarakan wa anta khayru-l-munzilin.
“My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate us.”
A Quranic prayer for a blessed place of arrival. It is especially meaningful when moving home, reaching a new city, beginning life somewhere unfamiliar, or asking for a safe and good arrival.
Rabbi-j'al hadha baladan aminan, wa-rzuq ahlahu mina-th-thamarati man amana minhum billahi wa-l-yawmi-l-akhir.
“My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits, whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day.”
Ibrahim (AS) asked this for Makkah and its people, and Allah (SWT) answered that He would also grant the disbelievers brief enjoyment.
Rabbana inni askantu min dhurriyyati bi-wadin ghayri dhi zar'in 'inda baytika-l-muharram, Rabbana li-yuqimu-s-salata fa-j'al af'idatan mina-n-nasi tahwi ilayhim wa-rzuqhum mina-th-thamarati la'allahum yashkurun.
“Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your Sacred House, our Lord, so that they may establish prayer. So make the hearts of people incline toward them, and provide for them from the fruits so that they may be grateful.”
Ibrahim (AS) prayed this for the family he had settled beside the Sacred House in a valley without crops.
Rabbi adkhilni mudkhala sidqin wa akhrijni mukhraja sidqin wa-j'al li min ladunka sultanan nasira.
“My Lord, cause me to enter a sound entrance and to exit a sound exit, and grant me from Yourself a supporting authority.”
Allah (SWT) teaches the Prophet ﷺ these words in the passage that also commands him to pray at night.
Bismillahi walajna, wa bismillahi kharajna, wa 'ala rabbina tawakkalna
“In Allah's name we enter, in Allah's name we leave, and upon our Lord we rely.”
Al-Albani and Zubair Ali Za'i graded this narration weak (da'if) for a break in its chain; Ibn Baz considered its chain hasan. Remembering Allah (SWT) as you enter your home is itself sound: the Prophet ﷺ said that when a man mentions Allah (SWT) on entering his house and at his meal, the devil tells his companions there is no shelter and no supper for them (Sahih Muslim 2018).
