Fear calls for both refuge and action. These are sourced prayers for rescue from wrongdoing people, protection from harmful whispering, and trust in Allah (SWT) when danger feels close. If the threat is immediate, seek practical safety and trusted help too.
Rabbi najjini mina-l-qawmi-dh-dhalimin.
“My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people.”
The brief prayer Musa (AS) made while leaving danger. It asks Allah (SWT) plainly for rescue from people who act unjustly.
Rabbana atina min ladunka rahmatan wa hayyi' lana min amrina rashada.
“Our Lord, give us from Yourself mercy, and prepare for us right guidance in our affair.”
The du'a of the young men of the Cave, said when they chose faith over an impossible situation. For when you don't see the way forward yet.
Hasbunallahu wa ni'ma-l-wakeel.
“Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.”
What Ibrahim (AS) said when thrown into the fire, and what the believers said when an army was being marched against them. The knock that opens every locked door.
Rabbi a'udhu bika min hamazati-sh-shayatin, wa a'udhu bika Rabbi an yahdurun.
“My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me.”
A direct Quranic prayer for refuge from the prompting of devils and from their presence. It fits moments of temptation, agitation, recurring harmful thoughts, or spiritual unease.
Rabbi-bni li 'indaka baytan fi-l-jannah, wa najjini min Fir'awna wa 'amalih, wa najjini mina-l-qawmi-dh-dhalimin.
“My Lord, build for me near You a house in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his deeds and save me from the wrongdoing people.”
Allah (SWT) sets out the wife of Pharaoh as an example for those who believe. Living under a tyrant's roof, she asked first for a home near her Lord, then for rescue from him and his deeds.
Rabbi-j'al hadha baladan aminan, wa-rzuq ahlahu mina-th-thamarati man amana minhum billahi wa-l-yawmi-l-akhir.
“My Lord, make this a secure city and provide its people with fruits, whoever of them believes in Allah and the Last Day.”
Ibrahim (AS) asked this for Makkah and its people, and Allah (SWT) answered that He would also grant the disbelievers brief enjoyment.
Rabbana akhrijna min hadhihi-l-qaryati-dh-dhalimi ahluha, wa-j'al lana min ladunka waliyya, wa-j'al lana min ladunka nasira.
“Our Lord, take us out of this town whose people are oppressors, and appoint for us from Yourself a protector, and appoint for us from Yourself a helper.”
Allah (SWT) cites this cry of oppressed men, women and children when urging the believers to stand up for them.
'Ala-llahi tawakkalna. Rabbana la taj'alna fitnatan li-l-qawmi-dh-dhalimin, wa najjina bi-rahmatika mina-l-qawmi-l-kafirin.
“Upon Allah we rely. Our Lord, do not make us a trial for the wrongdoing people, and save us by Your mercy from the disbelieving people.”
The few of Musa's people who believed despite their fear of Pharaoh answered his call to rely on Allah (SWT) with these words.
Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa Huwa, 'alayhi tawakkaltu, wa Huwa Rabbu-l-'arshi-l-'adheem.
“Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but He. In Him I have placed my trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.”
These words are from the Quran (at-Tawbah 9:129). Saying them seven times in the morning and seven times in the evening, with the promise that Allah (SWT) will suffice you in whatever concerns you, is reported from the Companion Abu ad-Darda' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5081). It is not authentic as a saying of the Prophet ﷺ: al-Albani graded that attribution fabricated (mawdu').
Bismillahi-lladhi la yadurru ma'asmihi shay'un fi-l-ardi wa la fi-s-sama'i, wa Huwa-s-Sami'u-l-'Alim.
“In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing on the earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”
Whoever says this three times in the morning and three times in the evening, nothing will harm them.
A'udhu bi kalimati-llahi-t-tammati min ghadabihi wa 'iqabih, wa sharri 'ibadih, wa min hamazati-sh-shayatini wa an yahdurun.
“I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from His anger and punishment, from the evil of His servants, and from the whispers of the devils and from their presence.”
The Prophet ﷺ said that when one of you is frightened in his sleep, let him say this, and it will not harm him. Al-Albani graded it hasan; Zubair Ali Za'i graded it weak (da'if).
Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'ala-llah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.
“In the name of Allah. I place my trust in Allah. There is no power and no strength except with Allah.”
The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever says this is told: you are guided, sufficed and protected, and the devils turn away from him.
Allahumma inna naj'aluka fi nuhurihim, wa na'udhu bika min shururihim
“O Allah, we place You before them, and we seek refuge in You from their evil.”
The Prophet ﷺ said this when he feared a group of people. Placing Allah (SWT) before them means asking Him to face them and hold them back.
Allahumma anta 'adudi, wa anta nasiri, bika ahulu, wa bika asulu, wa bika uqatil
“O Allah, You are my support and You are my helper. By You I move, by You I advance, and by You I fight.”
The Prophet ﷺ said this when setting out to face an enemy.
Allahumma Rabba-s-samawati-s-sab', wa Rabba-l-'arshi-l-'adheem, kun li jaran min fulani-bni fulan, wa ahzabihi min khala'iqik, an yafruta 'alayya ahadun minhum aw yatgha, 'azza jaruk, wa jalla thana'uk, wa la ilaha illa ant
“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the mighty Throne, be my protector against [name, son of name] and his allies among Your creation, so that none of them is hasty against me or transgresses. Mighty is the one You protect, exalted is Your praise, and there is no god but You.”
These are the words of the Companion 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, taught for anyone who fears the arrogance or injustice of a person in authority. Say the person's name in place of fulan ibn fulan.
Allahu akbar, Allahu a'azzu min khalqihi jami'a, Allahu a'azzu mimma akhafu wa ahdhar, a'udhu billahi-lladhi la ilaha illa huwa, al-mumsiki-s-samawati-s-sab'i an yaqa'na 'ala-l-ardi illa bi-idhnih, min sharri 'abdika fulan, wa junudihi wa atba'ihi wa ashya'ih, mina-l-jinni wa-l-ins, Allahumma kun li jaran min sharrihim, jalla thana'uka wa 'azza jaruk, wa tabaraka-smuk, wa la ilaha ghayruk
“Allah is the Greatest. Allah is mightier than all of His creation. Allah is mightier than what I fear and dread. I seek refuge in Allah, besides whom there is no god, who holds back the seven heavens from falling onto the earth except by His permission, from the evil of Your servant [name], and his troops, his followers and his supporters among the jinn and mankind. O Allah, be my protector from their evil. Exalted is Your praise, mighty is the one You protect, blessed is Your name, and there is no god other than You.”
These are the words of the Companion Ibn 'Abbas, for anyone who must go before a ruler he fears; say it three times. Say the person's name in place of fulan.
Allahumma-kfinihim bima shi't
“O Allah, suffice me against them in whatever way You will.”
The du'a of the believing young man in the story of the People of the Ditch, which Allah (SWT) answered.
La ilaha illa-llah!
“None has the right to be worshipped but Allah!”
The Prophet ﷺ woke up alarmed, saying these words.
