The Bringer of Death, by whose permission alone any life concludes.
Al-Mumeet is not a dark Name; it is a Name of order and mercy. Death in His hand is not tragedy loose in the world but an appointment kept precisely, a door between two chapters of one continuous story, opened by the same hand that opened the first.

From the Quran & Hadith
From the root mim-waw-ta (م و ت), the root of mawt, death, which carries the classical Arabic connotations of dying, causing death, taking life, and bringing motion to stillness. Al-Mumeet is the only appointer of endings: death does not roam free, does not strike at random, and answers to no cause but His permission at a term already written.
Death was created
The Quran says something remarkable: death is not an absence but a creation: 'He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed' (Quran 67:2). Death is created, purposeful, and, notice the order, mentioned before life: made first as the deadline that gives life its seriousness. An exam with no end time would never concentrate anyone's soul.
Every soul, an appointed term
'And it is not for any soul to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined' (Quran 3:145). No accident arrives early and no medicine holds a soul past its hour: 'When their term has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede it' (Quran 7:34). The believer who absorbs this loses two burdens at once: paralyzing fear for himself, and the cruel what-ifs that torment the bereaved. The term was never in anyone's hands but His.
Alladhī khalaqa-l-mawta wa-l-ḥayāta li-yabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu ʿamalā. Wa huwa-l-ʿAzīzu-l-Ghafūr.
“He who created death and life to test you as to which of you is best in deed, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.”
Wa mā kāna li-nafsin an tamūta illā bi-idhni-llāhi kitāban mu'ajjalā.
“And it is not for any soul to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined.”
Kullu nafsin dhā'iqatu-l-mawt. Wa innamā tuwaffawna ujūrakum yawma-l-qiyāmah.
“Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your full compensation on the Day of Resurrection.”
Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Remember often the destroyer of pleasures', meaning death.
The Prophet ﷺ prescribed remembering death often, not to darken life but to focus it. Dhikr of death is the great editor: it cuts grudges that suddenly look absurd, deletes procrastination on the good you keep deferring, and restores the people around you to their true value while they can still hear your kindness. And for the grieving: the One who took is Al-Mumeet, whose taking is never error, never early, never cruel, and He is simultaneously Al-Muhiy, who will give back life where loss now stands. Say what He taught: to Allah we belong, and to Him we return, and let the Name carry what the heart cannot.
Allāhumma aḥsin khātimatanā wa tawaffanā wa anta rāḍin ʿannā
O Allah, make our endings good and take us while You are pleased with us.
