Al Mubdi
The Originator
The Originator, from whom every beginning begins.
Al-Mubdi began the cosmos without a template and begins every life without a request. He is named almost always alongside Al-Mueed, the Restorer: the One who begins is the One who repeats, and the first creation is His standing proof of the second.
Mentions of Al Mubdi
From the Quran & Hadith
From the root ba-dal-hamza (ب د أ), which carries the classical Arabic connotations of beginning, initiating, and starting; originating and doing for the first time; and founding without precedent. Al-Mubdi is the One who begins everything: every being, every process, every story got its first page from Him.
The argument from the first time
The Quran's favorite proof of resurrection is origination: 'And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is even easier for Him' (Quran 30:27). Every skeptic of the second creation is standing inside the first one. You, reading this, are the evidence: brought from nothing once already, by the One for whom the rerun is lighter than the premiere.
Beginnings belong to Him
'Say: Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation' (Quran 29:20). The command to observe beginnings is an act of worship: every seed splitting, every dawn, every newborn is Al-Mubdi's signature repeated where we can watch. The scholars note the comfort folded in: the One who owns beginnings can begin things again, in a life, a heart, a broken situation, at any moment He wills.
Wa huwa-lladhī yabda'u-l-khalqa thumma yuʿīduhu wa huwa ahwanu ʿalayh.
“And it is He who begins creation; then He repeats it, and that is even easier for Him.”
Innahu huwa yubdi'u wa yuʿīd.
“Indeed, it is He who originates and repeats.”
Qul sīrū fi-l-arḍi fa-ndhurū kayfa bada'a-l-khalq. Thumma-llāhu yunshi'u-n-nash'ata-l-ākhirah.
“Say: Travel through the land and observe how He began creation. Then Allah will produce the final creation.”
Whoever worships Al-Mubdi never runs out of first pages. The pull of a wasted past, the voice that says the pattern is fixed and the story already written, has no authority over the Originator's servant: the One who began the universe from nothing can begin you again from less than you think you have. Tawbah is exactly that: an origination He grants mid-story. Honor beginnings in your own hands too. Begin the good you keep postponing, in His name, bismillāh, the way every surah but one begins. The Name teaches that starting is divine work; the servant's share of it is to start what is right without waiting for perfect conditions that never arrive.

O Allah, as You originated my creation, make excellent my ending.
