Inside the Quran

Al-Kitab, the Book, is one of the Quran's names for itself, dhalika l-kitabu la rayba fih, that is the Book about which there is no doubt (2:2). It also names earlier scriptures and the record of deeds every soul will meet.

Sometimes kitab means decree rather than pages, kitaban mu'ajjala, a decree with a set term (3:145). Context decides, and that flexibility is itself a lesson in how Quranic vocabulary works.

See it in real ayat

This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allāh -

He has sent down upon you, [O Muḥammad], the Book in truth, confirming what was before it. And He revealed the Torah and the Gospel

[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, who has sent down upon His Servant [Muḥammad (ﷺ)] the Book and has not made therein any deviance.
