فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَآئِفٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَآئِمُونَ

Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifunmin rabbika wahum na-imoon

"So there came upon it [i.e., the garden] an affliction from your Lord while they were asleep."

قَالُواْ سُبْحَـنَ رَبّنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـلِمِينَ- فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ يَتَلَـوَمُونَ- قَالُواْ يوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا طَـغِينَ- عَسَى رَبُّنَآ أَن يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْراً مّنْهَآ إِنَّآ إِلَى رَبّنَا رغِبُونَ- كَذَلِكَ الْعَذَابُ وَلَعَذَابُ الاْخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ لَوْ كَانُواْ يَعْلَمُونَ-

Всевышний сообщил, что Он искушает тех, кто отрицает истину, тем, что наделяет их мирскими благами. Он дает им отсрочку и продлевает их удовольствия в этом мире, дарует им богатство и детей, позволяет им прожить долгую жизнь. Он удовлетворяет их желания, но это отнюдь не делает им чести. Более того, это может быть искушением, которое затягивает их в омут неверия так, что они даже не замечают этого. Они обольщаются так же, как были обольщены владельцы сада. Когда поспели плоды в их саду и настала пора собирать урожай, они решили, что он уже в их руках и что никто не в силах помешать этому. Поэтому они поклялись, что соберут урожай по утру, но не сказали при этом: «Если угодно будет Аллаху». Они не ведали о том, что Аллах находится в засаде для неверующих и что Его наказание падет на их сад без промедления и опередит их.

Maʿārif al-Qur'ān

Mufti Shafi Usmani, English

فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِّن رَّ‌بِّكَ (Then, there whirled around it a whirl (of calamity) from your Lord, while they were asleep….68:19). The word 'whirl' refers to 'a whirl of calamity' as a result of which Divine punishment overtook the garden in a sudden and swift sweep. Some narratives report that it was a fire which burnt every standing crop, and reduced it to black ashes.

وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ (...while they were asleep.... 68:19). In other words, the devastating disaster overtook the entire garden while its owners were asleep.
