Lesson 10 of 1012 min
Put every reading skill together

Read Surah al-Fatiha Step by Step

Trace familiar rules through the opening surah and read one ayah at a time.

Surah al-Fatiha brings the whole beginner course together: joined letters, short and long vowels, sukoon, shaddah, and sun letters all appear in seven short ayat.

Read slowly. Accuracy comes before speed. Open each ayah in Barakah's Quran reader to listen, follow the Arabic, and check the meaning.

Rule 1

Begin with the name of Allah (SWT)

Notice the kasra in bismi, the doubled lam in the name of Allah (SWT), and the sun-letter sound in ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim.

Try it yourself

Keep this one thing

You now know the marks needed to begin sounding out Quranic Arabic. Keep al-Fatiha slow, listen often, and let a teacher correct your recitation.
