Letter 26 of 28
How Do You Pronounce Ha (ه)?
ه
Haهَاء
H as in house, soft and light.
The sound
The ordinary English h of house and hand, a light breath from the open throat.
Its shape changes more than any other letter across its four forms, so give the written forms below an extra look. Do not confuse it with the deep, squeezed Haa (ح).
At the end of feminine words it appears as ta marbutah (ة), which sounds like h when you pause on it, الْجَنَّة read alone ends in a soft h.
The four written forms
Arabic letters change shape by position, alone, at the start, in the middle, and at the end of a word.
