وَجَآءَ ٱلْمُعَذِّرُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَعْرَابِ لِيُؤْذَنَ لَهُمْ وَقَعَدَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ سَيُصِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌۭ

Wajaa almuAAaththiroona minaal-aAArabi liyu/thana lahum waqaAAada allatheenakathaboo Allaha warasoolahu sayuseebu allatheenakafaroo minhum AAathabun aleem

"And those with excuses among the bedouins came to be permitted [to remain], and they who had lied to Allāh and His Messenger sat [at home]. There will strike those who disbelieved among them a painful punishment."

وَقَعَدَ الَّذِينَ كَذَبُواْ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ

(and those who had lied to Allah and His Messenger sat at home), and did not ask for permission for it; and Allah warned them of painful punishment,

سَيُصِيبُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ مِنْهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

(a painful torment will seize those of them who disbelieve.)

Среди бедуинов оказались такие, которые пренебрегли предписаниями Аллаха и стали просить дозволения не отправляться в поход. Они были настолько грубы и бесстыдны, что не придавали значения своим оправданиям. А причиной тому было их маловерие. А те из них, которые не уверовали в Аллаха и Его посланника, да благословит его Аллах и приветствует, вообще не привели никаких оправданий. Согласно другому толкованию, здесь речь идет о бедуинах, которые действительно имели уважительные причины для того, чтобы не отправляться в поход. Они пришли к Пророку, да благословит его Аллах и приветствует, чтобы извиниться и оправдаться, потому что он всегда принимал извинения тех, кто приводил в свое оправдание убедительные доводы. А те из них, которые солгали Аллаху и Его посланнику, да благословит его Аллах и приветствует, отказались от участия в походе. Они лживо называли себя верующими, а ведь именно вера обязывала их выступить в поход. И поэтому Аллах обещал подвергнуть их мучительному наказанию как при жизни на земле, так и после смерти.

Commentary

The details given in the verse tell us that there were two kinds of people among the Bedouins of the desert. First, there were those who visited the Holy Prophet ﷺ and requested that they might be excused from Jihad and allowed to stay behind. Then, there were the arrogant and rebellious among them who did not even bother to take the trouble of excusing themselves out of it. They just stayed behind.

When the Holy Prophet ﷺ allowed Jadd ibn Qays that he may not go on Jihad,' says Sayyidna Jabir ibn ` Abdullah ؓ ، ` some hypocrites also came to him, offered their excuses and sought his permission to stay out of Jihad. As for the permission, he let them have it, but he did realize that they were making false excuses, therefore, he turned away from them. Thereupon, this verse was revealed.'

It made it clear that their excuse was unacceptable. Therefore, they were served with the warning of a painful punishment. However, by saying: اَلَّذِینَ کَفَرُوا مِنھُم (those of them who disbelieve), a hint was given that the excuse given by some of them was not because of their disbelief or hypocrisy, rather, it was because of their natural laziness. So, they were not to be affected by the punishment to fall upon those disbelievers.
