How to make dua as a beginner

Ask Allah (SWT) naturally, sincerely, and without fear of wrong words

6 min read2 sources
Dua is direct conversation with Allah (SWT). You do not need a special voice or perfect Arabic. You may ask in the language that lets you speak honestly.

A simple way to begin

  • Praise Allah (SWT) for something specific.
  • Send peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
  • Ask clearly for what you need in this life and the next.
  • Ask forgiveness and guidance alongside the outcome you want.
  • Close with trust, knowing the answer may come in a different form or time.

Personal words and taught duas

The Quran and Sunnah give beautiful duas with deep meaning. Learn them gradually. Outside the formal prayer, you can also speak to Allah (SWT) in your own language. Inside salah, detailed rulings can vary, so learn the practice your trusted teacher follows.

One useful step today

Make a two-minute dua tonight using your own words. Ask for one spiritual need, one practical need, and one other person.

Common questions

Can I make dua in English?

Yes, especially outside formal salah. Allah (SWT) knows every language and what is in your heart.

Why has my dua not been answered yet?

Delay is not neglect. Keep asking while taking lawful action, and do not reduce Allah (SWT)'s (SWT) response to only one outcome or timetable.
