Shaddah

Hold a doubled consonant instead of sliding past it.

Shaddah looks like a small w above a letter. It means the consonant is doubled: the first copy closes the sound, and the second copy opens with the written vowel.

This is not decoration. Missing the doubled letter can change both the sound and the meaning of a word.

Rule 1

Pause gently inside the doubled letter

Give the consonant enough time to be heard twice, but do not insert a new vowel between the two halves.

Read shaddah together with its vowel

The vowel mark on the same letter tells you how the second half opens.
