A licence to transmit the Quran or a text, given by a teacher whose chain reaches the Prophet ﷺ.
Ijazah explained
A student recites the whole Quran to a teacher from memory with tajwid, and the teacher grants an ijazah with a sanad, a chain of teachers going back to the Prophet ﷺ. The same system preserves the hadith collections.
