Duas from the Qur'an

أَدْعِيَةٌ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ

The supplications Allah Himself teaches us in the Qur'an — the prayers of the prophets.

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbana atina fi-d-dunya hasanah, wa fi-l-akhirati hasanah, wa qina 'adhaba-n-nar.
Our Lord, give us in this world good and in the Hereafter good, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Anas ﷺ said this was the dua the Prophet ﷺ recited most often. Covers this life, the next, and protection in between.

رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Rabbana la tu'akhidhna in nasina aw akhta'na. Rabbana wa la tahmil 'alayna isran kama hamaltahu 'ala-lladhina min qablina. Rabbana wa la tuhammilna ma la taqata lana bih, wa'fu 'anna, wa-ghfir lana, wa-rhamna, anta Mawlana fa-nsurna 'ala-l-qawmi-l-kafirin.
Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or err. Our Lord, lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, burden us not with what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against those who reject faith.
The closing two verses of Surat al-Baqarah — whoever recites them at night, they suffice him.

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا وَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
Rabbana afrigh 'alayna sabran, wa thabbit aqdamana, wa-nsurna 'ala-l-qawmi-l-kafirin.
Our Lord, pour upon us patience, steady our steps, and help us against the disbelieving people.

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
Rabbana zalamna anfusana, wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna la-nakunanna mina-l-khasirin.
Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we will surely be among the losers.
The first prayer of repentance — the words Adam and Hawa said after they slipped. The template for every tawba since.

رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي ۝ وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي ۝ وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي ۝ يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي
Rabbi-shrah li sadri, wa yassir li amri, wa-hlul 'uqdatan min lisani, yafqahu qawli.
My Lord, expand for me my chest, ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech.
Musa said this before confronting Pharaoh. A go-to before hard conversations, presentations, or asking for something difficult.

My Lord, increase me in knowledge.
The only thing in the Qur'an we are taught to always ask more of. Say it before studying, before reading, before any pursuit of understanding.

رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ
Rabbi la tadharni fardan, wa anta khayru-l-warithin.
My Lord, do not leave me alone, and You are the best of inheritors.

رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا
Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa dhurriyyatina qurrata a'yun, wa-j'alna li-l-muttaqina imama.
Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders for the God-conscious.
The dua of 'the servants of the Most Merciful'. For a family that is a source of coolness, not stress.

رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِي أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَىٰ وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِي فِي ذُرِّيَّتِي ۖ إِنِّي تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
Rabbi awzi'ni an ashkura ni'mataka-llati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayy, wa an a'mala salihan tardahu, wa aslih li fi dhurriyyati, inni tubtu ilayka wa inni mina-l-muslimin.
My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for the favour You have bestowed on me and on my parents, and to do righteousness of which You approve, and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have turned to You, and I am among the Muslims.
The dua of one reaching maturity (forty). A complete prayer for gratitude, parents, good deeds, and children who will carry the good forward.

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي ۚ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِ
Rabbi-j'alni muqima-s-salah, wa min dhurriyyati. Rabbana wa taqabbal du'a'.
My Lord, make me an establisher of prayer, and from my descendants. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.
Ibrahim — decades into his mission, still asking for prayer to be established in his line. The quiet prayer every parent should have on their lips.

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا
Rabbana atina min ladunka rahmatan wa hayyi' lana min amrina rashada.
Our Lord, give us from Yourself mercy, and prepare for us right guidance in our affair.
The dua of the young men of the Cave — said when they chose faith over an impossible situation. For when you don't see the way forward yet.

حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَنِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ
Hasbunallahu wa ni'ma-l-wakeel.
Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs.
What Ibrahim said when thrown into the fire, and what the believers said when an army was being marched against them. The knock that opens every locked door.
