Hadith for · haya

Modesty is from faith

Wednesday, January 14, 2004

الْحَيَاءُ مِنَ الْإِيمَانِ
Transliteration

Al-haya'u mina-l-iman.

Translation

Modesty is from faith.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar·Sahih al-Bukhari 24, Sahih Muslim 36
Reflection

When haya goes, faith bleeds out with it. The Prophet ﷺ said in another hadith: if you have no haya, do as you wish. He meant the warning, not the licence.

One saying of the Prophet ﷺ a day.

Pair this with the daily verse, the 99 Names, and a few beads of dhikr. Small things, repeated, leave the deepest mark.
