Hadith for · knowledge

Seeking knowledge is obligatory

Sunday, November 14, 1982

طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ
Transliteration

Talabu-l-ilmi faridatun ala kulli muslim.

Translation

Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik·Sunan Ibn Majah 224
Reflection

Not on every scholar, not on every man. On every Muslim. The obligation is to learn enough to worship correctly, before any specialisation.
