أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّ نَهَرًا بِبَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ يَغْتَسِلُ فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ، هَلْ يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَيْءٌ؟ قَالُوا: لَا. قَالَ: فَذَلِكَ مَثَلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ، يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِهِنَّ الْخَطَايَا
A-ra'aytum law anna naharan bi-babi ahadikum yaghtasilu fihi kulla yawmin khamsa marrat, hal yabqa min daranihi shay'? Qalu: la. Qala: fa-dhalika mathalu-s-salawati-l-khams, yamhu-llahu bi-hinna-l-khataya.
"If one of you had a river at his door in which he bathed five times a day, would any dirt remain on him? They said: No. He said: That is the likeness of the five prayers — with them Allah wipes away sins."
