Gabriel led the Prophet ﷺ in prayer
أَمَّنِي جِبْرِيلُ عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ مَرَّتَيْنِ
Ammani Jibrilu inda-l-bayti marratayn.
"Jibreel led me in prayer at the House twice. He prayed Dhuhr the first time when the shadow was the length of a sandal-strap; Asr when the shadow of a thing was its length; Maghrib when the sun set; Isha when the twilight disappeared; and Fajr when fasting begins. The next day he led me in Dhuhr when a thing's shadow was its length; Asr when it was twice; Maghrib at the same time; Isha after a third of the night; Fajr when light spread. He said: between these two times is the prayer."
Narrated by Ibn Abbas. Sunan at-Tirmidhi 149, Sunan Abi Dawud 393
A short reflection
The five prayers are anchored to the sun and the sky, not the clock. The window for each is wide enough to fit a life, narrow enough to discipline it.
