Two women fighting at the time of David

Kanati-mra'atani ma'ahuma-bnahuma, ja'a-dh-dhi'bu fa-dhahaba bi-bni ihdahuma...

"Two women each had a son. A wolf took one of the sons. Each accused the other. They went to Dawud, who ruled for the elder. Then they went to Sulayman, son of Dawud, who said: Bring me the knife; I will divide him between you. The younger said: No, do not, may Allah have mercy on you. He is her son. So he ruled for the younger."

Narrated by Abu Hurayrah. Sahih al-Bukhari 3427, Sahih Muslim 1720

A short reflection

The famous test of Sulayman ﷺ. Maternal love refuses harm to the child even at the cost of her claim. Wisdom listens to what the parties cannot bring themselves to do.
