The river at your door
A-ra'aytum law anna nahran bi-babi ahadikum yaghtasilu minhu kulla yawmin khamsa marrat, hal yabqa min daranihi shay'?
"What do you think? If there were a river by the door of one of you and he bathed in it five times a day, would any of his dirt remain? They said: No, none of his dirt would remain. He said: That is the likeness of the five prayers. By them, Allah erases the wrongdoings."
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah. Sahih al-Bukhari 528, Sahih Muslim 667
A short reflection
Imagine missing five baths a day in a river at your door, then complaining of the dirt. The image is meant to make the absurdity of skipping salah obvious.
